Film Series "Celebrate Photography"!

  • Leesburg Center for the Arts (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Leesburg asked for photography programs and this is hopefully just the beginning. We are kicking programming off with Mondays in May (National Photography Month) showing four Photographer Documentaries followed by time to share thoughts and idea. In addition, on May 14th the first meeting of the New LCFA Photography Club is included.

May 7 - An Art That Nature Makes - The Work of Artist Rosamond Purcell
Finding unexpected beauty in the discarded and decayed, photographer Rosamond Purcell has developed an oeuvre of work that has garnered international acclaim, graced the pages of National Geographic and over 20 published books, and has enlisted admirers such as Jonathan Safran Foer, Errol Morris and Stephen Jay Gould.

May 14 - Jan Groover: Tilting at Space (SHORT)
VIEWING THEN FIRST OFFICIAL MONTHLY MEETING OF THE LCFA PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
Jan Groover is widely recognized as one of the preeminent fine arts photographers. Her work has been compared to that of Morandi, Cezanne, and Weston.

May 21 - Bert Stern: Original Mad Man
is the definitive voyage into the life and work of one of the greatest American photographers of all time.
An original Madison Avenue "mad man," Stern's images helped create modern advertising; his ground-breaking campaign for Smirnoff forever changed the industry. The iconic photos he took of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine, Sophia Loren, Twiggy, and the infamous Lolita image from Kubrick's film, minted Stern - along with Irving Penn and Richard Avedon - as a celebrity in his own right. Indeed, his photos from Monroe's "Last Sitting" are considered to be the ultimate images of the 20th century icon.

May 28 - Rock Photographer Jini Dellaccio: Her Aim Is True:
Before Leibovitz, there was Jini... Her Aim Is True brings together musicians and rock photographers in an inspiring and unforgettable journey revealing unlikely rock 'n' roll photographer, Jini Dellaccio who visualized punk before it had a name and embodied indie before it was cool. In 1964, a middle-aged Dellaccio began hanging out with raucous garage bands in her backyard, creating innovative album covers.

May 18th – FLOW ARTS - The Art of Object Manipulation
We're meeting outside in town square (next to USB) this week and getting introduced to Flow Toys. Artists please come and inspire us. Show us your flow!
*****
What is flow and what do you mean when you use the term "the flow arts"?
Flow is the mental state of operation in which the person is fully immersed in what he or she is doing by a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity. Colloquial terms for this or similar mental states include: to be on the ball, in the zone, or in the groove.

Flow Arts blends meditation, play, exercise and dance into a fun and healthful activity that moves the body, stills the mind and uplifts the spirit. It is movement with an external focus aimed at putting you “in the zone” or in the Flow. The techniques are simple, but the adaptations are infinite, allowing for wild variations in personal style and expression, as well as the opportunity to make & share novel discoveries. The movement can be aerobic, calming, energizing, challenging, showy or anything else. Flow Arts improves dexterity, focus, coordination, body awareness, spatial skills and promotes brain plasticity.

Flow Arts is like Yoga, Tai Chi, Dance and Juggling all rolled into Fun!

COFFEE & CONVOS is a new way to connect at the LCFA each Friday at noon. The aim is to Learn, Share, Connect. It's laid back and casual. There's a new topic each week but feel free to take an adventurous detour.

+ Gather in the gallery space where the art will inspire you.
+ Relax in the comfy chairs with a cup of Coffee Snob's brew.
+ Meet interesting and like minded people.
+ Chat about topics relating to the arts, creativity, community and collaboration.
